Marjon de Jong is a Sumi-e artist of Dutch origin. Her interest in the art of Sumi-e started quite by chance in 1985 whilst passing a bookshop which next to the general office and printing materials also supplied artistry materials such as special brushes and ink. Immediately she was impressed with the beauty and the perfection of the materials, and felt deep respect for the makers of these beautiful handicraft tools.

At that very moment she experienced a ‘vision’ of the tool makers and the art of brush making and felt connected immediately, even though it was the first time she laid eyes on both the materials and the art form.

Enthused by this vision she started straight away to master the technique of Sumi-e; seemingly without any effort. This Japanese technique of rice paper painting is an exquisite art form and has become Marjon’s sole form of artistry. Her natural talent lies in the Zen-style, in which she shows exact feeling for white interspaces, composition and rhythm.
